5 social media platform updates – Business Rules Video

By Nicole Krug,

January 13, 2020
The social media landscape is constantly evolving, and part of this evolution is the introduction of new features by the major social media sites. In this episode of 5 Business Rules, Monika and I go through the latest social media updates that you should be aware of. Spend 4 minutes watching the video or read on for the updates.

LinkedIn has changed their newsfeed

One major change that LinkedIn has made relates to how posts are prioritized in newsfeeds. They now prioritize posts that are on their channel, and that generate conversations versus a lot of sharing. What this does is hide the boring day-to-day posts that people make, and encourages people to start a dialog by sharing interesting content that they’re passionate about.

Facebook is offering automated ads

Facebook is constantly introducing major updates, but one that’s especially relevant for small businesses is the automated ad. With automated ads, all you have to do answer some questions on Facebook about your business and they’ll auto-generate several ad options for you.

This is a great time saver if you’re just getting started with Facebook ads, and it eliminates some of the mystery from the ad creation process. Facebook ads are an affordable way to test out different advertising options so you can see what works.

Facebook video editing tool

Another major update on Facebook is their new video editing tool, which allows you to record a video right in Facebook. This takes some of the steps out of creating a video, because you don’t need to bother with a separate video editing tool.

This feature is great if, for example, you did a webinar and want to pull a relevant little snippet out to share. Facebook’s video editing tool really simplifies this whole process, even if you’re not an editor.

5 social media platform updatesCreating an Instagram ad from someone’s post

Imagine being able to use someone’s Instagram post to promote your own business. Well that’s exactly what you can do, because Instagram now allows you to turn an influencer’s post about your company into an ad for your company.

This feature lets you promote somebody else’s post, which is similar to what you can do on Facebook when you boost your own post.

Twitter is fighting spam

Twitter has had a major spam issue as long as it’s been around, but they have recently taken steps to address this problem. You’re now only able to follow up to 400 users per day, which stops spammers from rapidly expanding their networks by following and immediately unfollowing Twitter accounts.
