There are so many ways a business can benefit from email marketing, but you must have a strong list to work with.
Growing a list can be challenging, so in this episode of 5 Business Rules, Monika Jansen and I offer up five tips to ramp up your growth. Spend 3 minutes watching the video or read on for the tips.
#1 Give people a reason to opt in
We’re all overwhelmed by spam, so giving out an email address may not be something many users do willingly. If that’s the case, make a trade.
Offer up an eBook, a discount or some other special offer that makes someone more willing to share their information.
Remember: you must bring value, not only through the offer but also in the emails you send once someone opts in.
#2 Integrate an email sign up into every form on your website
This goes beyond simply having a newsletter signup on your website. Integrating email opt-ins into every interaction on your website can help grow your list.
Think about including an email signup on:
- eCommerce checkouts
- Scheduling appointments
- Surveys
- Contact forms
#3 Have a contest
A quick and easy way to rev up the names on your list is to hold an enter-to-win contest.
Social media contests have exploded over the last few years, because people love to win! With a simple form that collects a person’s name, email address, and acknowledgement of the rules, you’re ready to go.
This doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money – give away a gas card, gift card, or a small cash prize and watch your email sign ups soar.
#4 Use your email signature
You send dozens of email every day, so use that communication to drive people to your newsletter. While people you communicate with may not visit your website regularly, they can still be attracted to your email list by seeing an offer in your email signature.
Use your signature to offer tips and update it often!
#5 Text Signs Up
Use text signs up at live events to get people on your list. Whether you are speaking to a crowd or in front of people at a trade show, use text messaging to get them on your list quickly for continued engagement.
This lets you capture information right then and there, without having to ask someone to visit your site and sign up at a later date.
This is a super star technique that has the added bonus of making you appear tech-savvy. Want to see how this works? Text 5RULES to 444999 right now!
