As a reminder, if you’re not actually planning to be social (i.e. interactive), you’re unlikely to get much engagement. So these tips are really meant for people that already have an active presence and are looking to step up their game.
Here are 5 tips to get more social media engagement:
1. Use Visuals
Study after study keeps telling us that posts including visuals get more engagement. More shares, more likes, more comments. Even more link clicks.
Why? Quite simply a strong image makes you take notice of a post, whereas you could easily pass over something that’s just text. Once you’ve taken the time to notice it, you’re more likely to interact with the content.
2. Say Thank You
This one should be pretty simple, but it’s a good reminder of the power of gratitude.
Nicole Kohler did a data analysis and found that when you thank people for retweets on Twitter
1 in 4 people will follow you back
25% conversion rate isn’t too shabby, especially for something that doesn’t cost a thing. She also found 26% of people favorited her thank you tweet and 30% of people replied.
3. Get in on the Trends
Trending topics rise to the top because people are having fun talking about them. Tap into that excitement see your engagement soar.
Not sure how to jump in? Here are some ideas:
• Holidays: Be silly or clever or simply send good cheer.
• Big events: who doesn’t like to predict outcome of the super bowl or the Oscars?
• Pop culture: The Bachelor premier, The Game of Thrones finale, heck the latest celebrity marriage/divorce/scandal – get in on those hashtags!
4. Tag People or Brands
If you want more engagement, than engage! Tag another user in your post, and you are more than likely to get a share, a like, or both for your efforts.
5. Engage with Influencers and Brand Advocates
Tapping into social media influencers or brand advocates can step up your engagement by as much as 16 times more than paid media, according to Group High*.
