5 reasons messaging apps are relevant to your business | 5 Business Rules

By Nicole Krug,

October 22, 2019
A lot of people only think of messaging apps as a way of casually conversing with friends, but apps such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp can be useful in business as well.

In this episode of 5 Business Rules, Monika and I will share five reasons that messaging apps can be relevant to your business. Spend 5 minutes watching the video or read on for the tips.

Social media is saturated

Social media is no longer growing, and has become so ad-driven that you can’t get your message through without spending a lot of money. On the other hand, messaging apps have continued to grow, with WhatsApp now boasting 1.5 billion active users.

Messaging apps lead to a high level of engagement

The business versions of these apps make it incredibly easy to chat with customers. Many customers, especially younger ones, are spending more time on messaging apps than Facebook and email, so if you want to engage with these individuals messaging apps are the best way to do so.

5 reasons messaging apps are relevant to your businessMessaging apps are effective for customer follow-ups

A company called ProfitBooks has been using WhatsApp to follow up with customers, and has seen a 40% increase in response rate. While not all businesses will see such an extraordinary return, it’s clear that messaging apps are an appealing alternative to email follow-ups.

WhatsApp is lighter than email

You don’t need a strong internet connection to use WhatsApp because of how light it is. WhatsApp’s small size means it will use less data and work almost anywhere, even on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean!

Messaging apps are relevant for business-to-consumer interactions

For example, a makeup artist can do consultations through the chats because they can send pictures. Restaurants are taking delivery orders and reservations through messaging apps. If you’re doing events you can send quick notices about anything, such as parking or construction. You can even use these apps to do job screening.
