Felicia Pride, founder of The Create Daily has helped connect me with members of the Social Light team through her creative job curation services. What started out as a daily email of opportunities has blossomed into so much more. Since The Create Daily has been expanding, I asked Felicia to share the secrets of her success.
How do you use the internet to support The Create Daily?
We are an internet-based business. Social media is very important in connecting with creators and opportunity providers. We are also introducing social advertising and Google AdWords as promotional tools.
What’s your approach to social media?
We use social media to connect with our community and ecosystem to provide value and grow. Currently we focus on Twitter and Facebook, but we’re testing other platforms like Google+. We want to be where our community is.
What’s your favorite digital marketing trick for The Create Daily?
Twitter searches have been great to find people, content, and inspiration.
Do you have a favorite online productivity tool you’d like to share?
Not sure if I have a definitive favorite, but basecamp is what we use to keep our core team and our collaborators on the same page. I use Evernote to store everything.
Any lessons learned on what NOT to do?
Don’t take community-building online for granted. Don’t let it, or social media, be one-sided – all about you. It’s about genuine engagement and relationship-building – which takes time and can’t be bought.
What’s the one thing about working online that you wish you’d found out sooner?
Build systems wherever possible and use the systems, especially ones that help you organize your network / community / ecosystem so that you can respond quickly and engage faster.
Is there something you’ve heard about that you’re dying to try for The Create Daily?
I’d like to find ways to incorporate Vine in our work, if it makes sense for our community. But I just like it as a platform.
What’s the next big thing for you online?
We’re moving towards a second iteration of our beta site for The Create Daily based on feedback from our community. So excited about that.
