Small businesses with blogs generate 126 percent more leads than those without a blog.
Blogs have been proven to be powerful marketing assets, but if you are working in a crowded market it can be difficult to separate your blog from the crowd.
In this episode of 5 Business Rules, blogging rock star Monika Jansen shares some tried-and-true ways to make your blog stand out.
# 1 Find your niche
You are in business because there is something special you can offer that no one else can. This is a great place to showcase your niche. You might speak to a:
- Target market – i.e. moms who are business owners
- Industry – i.e. financial analysis
- Very specific audience – i.e. real estate lawyers
#2 Have a personality
BE YOU to create a connection with your reader.
You want to educate, but you also want to show people who you are and why they want to work with you. So write how you speak. Don’t be afraid to use slang, be irreverent, or crack jokes if that’s what someone will hear with they talk to you.
#3 Provide useful content
Pack each blog post with content that’s valuable and useful. Teach! Don’t just blabber on with your opinion about something if it doesn’t mean anything to your audience.
Use your blog to establish your expertise and showcase how you can help.
#4 Get super visual
Nobody wants to read a huge block of text. Keep your blog from looking like a textbook by adding images that help tell the story.
This not only makes your blog easier to read, it can give you a boost in your search engine rankings. (Especially if you remember to put your keyword in the description of your image.)
#5 Video blogs
We’ve already covered the fact that a blog is a way to showcase your personality and there’s no better way for people to get a sense of who you are than through video.
Videos have also exploded in popularity as many people prefer to watch, rather than read.
Videos can go a long way to stand out, especially if your competition is not using them.
